One day young John was repairing a single-shot rifle, and the mechanical design was complex and poor. He was the driving force in the gun shop, displaying the most skill, design savvy and leadership. One of his several sons was John Moses Browning, who was 23 years old in 1878. He often worked in the gun shop but served primarily as a teacher and coach.
